IU v Maryland

Indiana pulled out a 27-11 victory over Maryland to move to 5-1 on the season.  It's nearly inconceivable to think that the last time Indiana pieced together back-to-back winning seasons was in 1993 and 1994 under Bill Mallory.

The Hoosier pass offense wasn't pretty, but the running game finally emerged from a prolonged slump to lift the Hoosiers. There was a clear emphasis on IU's part to spark its rushing attack against Maryland, despite IU's second-string running back, Sampson James, being inactive.

For a team that entered the game with the second-worst rushing attack in the Big Ten, Indiana's running back group showed out when the Hoosiers needed them most.

With its starting quarterback injured, the passing game ineffective and Sampson James inactive, the trio of Stevie Scott III, Tim Baldwin and Davis Ellis shouldered the load with explosion and tenacity.

Scott led the way with three rushing scores and 80 yards, while Baldwin, the true freshman, rumbled for 106 yards on 16 carries. Ellis also contributed five carries for 21 yards.

IU @ Ohio State

IU ranked #9 marched into Columbus to face the #3 Buckeye’s who were heavily favored by three touchdowns. They almost pull the upset. Michael Penix threw for 491 yards, the second-most in Indiana history and five touchdowns. While Ty Fryfogle became the first Big Ten receiver ever to have two straight games with more than 200 receiving yards. But a 28-point third-quarter deficit was too much to overcome. Final score 42-35 Buckeye’s

IU v Michigan

The Hoosiers hosted Michigan on an unusually warm day for November with temperatures reaching the mid-70’s for a noon kickoff.

Indiana beat Michigan for the first time since 1987 by a score of 38-21. It is the first time that the Hoosiers had beaten Penn State and Michigan in the same season. Michael Penix finishing with 30-for-50 for 342 yards and three touchdowns.

The Hoosiers were in command of this one from the outset with touchdown passes from Penix to Miles Marshall and Ty Fryfogle in the first quarter sandwiched between a 37-yard strike from Milton to Cornelius Johnson. Indiana led 14-7 after one quarter of play. They would extend their lead going into halftime to 24-7 on a 52-yard field goal with just under 7 minutes to go and a one-yard pass to Peyton Hendershot with 56 seconds to go.

Michigan came out of the locker room with a defensive stop and a Roman Wilson touchdown pass from 13-yards out from Milton, but Indiana had a counter punch and answered with a score of their own. Through three quarters, the Hoosiers led 31-14. Michigan was able to get it to within 10 on a 21-yard touchdown catch from Ronnie Bell (six catches, 149 yards), but the Hoosiers put the game away at 38-21 with a Stevie Scott two-yard touchdown with just under 9 minutes to go.
