IU drew first blood scoring a field goal to go up 3-0. Rutgers would score 10 straight followed by 13 by Indiana to go up 16-10 early in the second half. but Rutgers' 21 third quarter points gave the Scarlet Knights enough cushion to pul away and finish 45-23.

Tevin Colman had 32 carries for 307 yards and one touchdown including a 67-yard touchdown run late in the first half. It was the second best game in school history, trailing only Anthony Thompson's 377-yard effort in 1989.
