Michigan

In the 4th quarter quarterback Tate Forcier leaped for a TD and a 2-point conversion to put Michigan ahead 29-26, but Darius Willis put Indiana back ahead with an 85-yard run on the next play. Forcier's 26-yard pass to Martavious Odoms with 2:29 left lifted No. 23 Michigan to a 36-33 win. The game was not without controversy. In the waning moments what appeared to be simultaneous catch in favor of the Hoosiers was ruled an interception and the ball was returned to Michigan The Hoosiers out gained Michigan 467 -372. It was the most points the Hoosiers had ever scored at Michigan. Wills finished with 152 yards on 16 carries.

Akron

Ray Fisher returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for the opening score. The defense steped up as Austin Thomas had two of Indiana's four interceptions. The Hoosiers held the Zips to less than 200 yards of total offense. Two kicks however were blocked so there is still work that needs to be done. The Hoosiers pulled away in the second half.

Western Michigan

Defensive end Greg Middleton, the nation’s sacks leader in 2007, hit Aaron Winchester in the backfield, jarring the ball loose. Carrington recovered. But Indiana failed to produce a first down that would have run out the clock, so Lynch instructed punter Chris Hagerup to step out of the end zone with 17 seconds left. That made it 23-19.

Western still had a chance from midfield with 7 seconds to go, calling for a hook-and-lateral play that started near the left sideline, came back to the right sideline and wound up with five pitches – the last of which was ruled a forward lateral but ended up in the hands of safety Jerimy Finch as time expired.

Eastern Kentucky

The 2009 season opened with a 19-13 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Plenty of issues for the coaching staff to work on. The offense failed to score in the second half and the defensive secondary was at times soft.
